One type of traumatic dental injury is when a patient has a dislodged tooth. When a tooth is dislodged, it means that it has been pushed back into its socket. Sometimes, if the tooth is pushed partially out of the socket, our dentist may be able to reposition and stabilize the tooth. If the pulp remains healthy, there will be no need for additional treatment. However, if the pulp becomes damaged, you will need to have a root canal treatment at our office within a few weeks of the injury. If you have a tooth that is knocked out of your mouth, it is said that you have a tooth which has been avulsed. When this occurs, time is of the essence. You will need to come into our office with the tooth immediately. The sooner our dentist works to reinsert the tooth, the more likely it is that the tooth can be saved. Never handle the tooth by the roots; instead pick it up by the enamel portion and put it into a glass of milk or water.
